The Urban Oasis - The greenland in old industrial area in Hong Kong
"The Urban Oasis" shows the concept of transmutatism in adaptive reuse design based on the gas holder in To Kwa Wan, Hong Kong, which is the collective memory in the region. The design emphasises the retention of the unique original structure, while transforming it into a community centre that includes community hall, cafe and green roof for locals. With the consideration of the site, the community centre acts as a typhoon shelter and observation deck. The centre part contains a fish pot which looks like a mini aquarium and the facade of the community centre is made up of glass windows so people can stay indoor to observe birds in different angles. The floor plan is shaped as sweet potato to symbolise the geographical landform of To Kwa Wan, Hong Kong.
